When would you use a Website?
Often a company website is focused on educating and informing the public and many times also includes a shop or membership area.
Think of a website as a complete company story, and a one-stop shop where the client only has to remember one domain name (www.yourbusiness.com) which includes menu links to other web pages for important information like:
- About Us – the company mission and its management
- Services and Products
- Contact Us
- E-commerce shop
- Membership area
- Blog
- Social media links
If you have a new business, get a website, you need to have all your messaging in place – who you are, why you are in business, what is your mission, what the products and services you are offering. Developing a website takes you through the process of outlining all of this. If you have your business plan, consider extracting information word-for-word from that.
When would you use a Landing Page?
So why are sales and marketing experts asking me if I have a landing page?
Here is the likely scenario many of us struggle with: You have your business website, and you’ve told everyone about it. However, traffic to your website isn’t as robust as you would like. You know you need to do more marketing to build awareness of your brand, your products and services, but how do you get people to engage, to be interested and request your services or buy your products?
Engagement is the key.
One key objective of a landing page is to grow your email list so that you can engage more with your audience.
Many times, people are willing to exchange their email address for a resource incentive to sign-up (How To tips, an eBook or Video are some examples). The webpage where you offer your incentive is recognized as a landing page. The main feature of a landing page is a “Call To Action” Button that is more pronounced on the page than any other information.
Another use of a landing page is to act as an Event Sign-up page where users will be able to purchase a ticket and register for the event. As you collect their email addresses for the event, this gives you more people to connect with about other company related topics and promotions.
And finally, a landing page is often used to drive sales of a particular product, rather than to confuse a person with all the company has to offer. Choosing a landing page domain name that reflects the benefits of using the product or service is key.
Why use a Landing Page?
With information overload, which we have all experienced and is more common now than ever before, what better way to get your audience totally focused on your objective, which is to get them to share their information. This is called “opting in” and gives you permission to market to them.
